Tee-rific Dad

Just wanted to share a quick card with you...
I made this card for my son to give to his father for Fathers' Day, but it could be used for other occaisions.

Here's the details:
Papers:  from my scrap stash

Sentiment:  I printed it on my computer and used Tim Holtz Distress Stickles in Burlap for the "TEE-rific".

Extras:  The golf balls were scraps of white card stock that I embossed with the Dotted Swiss Cuttlebug folder, punched with my CM circle punch and layered with the tan card stock also punched with the CM circle punch.  I added a scrap of green silk ribbon tied around a couple of real golf tees.

Cute and simple...perfect for a "man card".

What is your creative Process?

So, everyone always asks me how I come up with my layouts.  I guess I do have a "process", I just never really thought about it.  Here is how I do it...

First, I look at the pictures from the event on my computer...I do not print anything out until I have my plan.  I like to use different size pictures, so once I know just what I need, I only print those pictures out.  No waste :)  I pick the ones that MUST go on the layout and then I choose a few for 'filler'.  The 'fillers' will get used if I need another picture to keep the layout balanced.  Now I know how many pictures I have and I know which ones are the most important.

I start sketching.  Very basic, just arranging the pictures.  Once I like the arrangement I will add details to the sketch.  I also decide the sizes of the pictures I will need to print.

Now I print the pictures, gather papers, find embellishments and make any Cricut Cuts I will need.

Time to lay it all out like the sketch....I am going to be honest, what looks good on paper doesn't always look good in actuality, so...time to tweak things until I like the layout.  Even though my layouts do not always look exactly like my sketches, the sketch really does help me with my process...it gets me organized.

Finally, ADHESIVE!  Glue, pop dot, tape everything in place.

Last, but not least, add the story.  Sometimes I journal on the computer, sometimes I write it out.  It all depends on how much journaling is needed and how much space I left myself.

Here is the sketch I did recently....

a few embellishments I picked out for the layout...

I cut the white daisies on the Cricut, double layered them, and then added a felt flower on top.

These are by Jolee's...super cute plastic and rhinestone embellishments.

And here is the layout...

So, how do you create?  What is your process?

Pick 3 for the week of 3/25/12

I have 4th of July on the brain this week...
1)  Firework Cookies - this look so yummy and fun to eat!  Pop rocks mixed with colored sugar...FUN!  Definitely on the try list.

2)  Party Hat Placeholders - these are so cute.  They caught my eye and then got me thinking...cute for a card, but even better to make one full size to include with a children's card.  Of course, it can be any kind of hat depending on the papers and decorations...birthday, crown or tiara!

3)  Fourth of July Wreath - found this on Pinterest, it is for sale on etsy.com.  I know I could make this and just think of the possibilities...white with silver snowflakes for winter, red and green with tiny packages or stocking for Christmas, Purple with black mixed in and a fluffy spider for Halloween...endless ideas!  I am going to have to give this one a try.

Hope your week is off to a GREAT start.  Remember, I love comments ;)

AAAACHOOOO!

A cute, but simple "Get Well" card I made for a swap...

Papers:  from my stash, CTMH pack from years ago
Image:  clip art I found in my word program
Extras:  used Spellbinders to make the mat for the image, pop dotted the image after I added a little piece of tissue.

I think they are sweet.

Pick 3 for the week of 6/18/12

OK, so I am  late again...I just can't seem to get into the swing of things with school out, camp over.  Hopefully next week will fall into place and we will find our groove ;)

Anyhow...I hope everyone had a wonderful Fathers' Day.  Ours was a mash of baseball, golf and movies.  John and Jarek played golf both Saturday and Sunday, we had a baseball game Saturday morning, and John and I went to the movies Saturday.  We saw "Rock of Ages"...it was OK, entertaining.

So, here are the picks for this week...
1)  Frozen Dog Treats - Love'em!  Well, my dogs love'em and I like the price.  These are great and you so much less expensive then the Frosty Paws.  I made a few changes to them:  first, I use fresh pureed bananas.  Secondly, I use a muffin tin that I have lightly sprayed with cooking spray, once frozen I pop them out & store in a large Tupperware.  I hate wasting the paper cups.

2)  Faux Stained Glass - love the look of this.  What a great way to reuse...think of all those plain jars you could dress up!

3)  No Carve Stamps - this is so cool!  I already have a ton of ideas...just need to get the caulk and get started!

Hope your week is off to a fabulous start.  Remember, let me know if you try any of these picks...I love comments!

A Special Anniversary

Finally I can share this with you!  This is a card I made for my BFF's parents 50th wedding anniversary.  I wanted to do something special as Mrs. Campbell is also a part of my FB group.  So, I tried to incorporate personal touches...a copy of their wedding day photo, her wedding color - orchid, and a small cross - he is a preacher.  I made an easel card so they could display it.  It is a relatively simple card...the frame was cut on the Cricut and then I added paper roses, the cross dimensional sticker, rhinestone flourishes, and pearls.  Simply elegant!

Pick 3 for the Week of 6/11/12

Ok, blogger was acting up yesterday and not posting my new entries.  I think it is all better today...
1)  Embroidered States Wall Decor - I love this!  I am going to make it for our home, but I am going to wait and see where this next move takes us...Let's see, we will have Dover, DE; Knoxville, TN; Frederick, MD; Austin & Bastrop, TX; Ellicott City, MD; Beavercreek, OH; and ???  This would make a great gift.

2)  Photo Luminaries - this would be so nice for an anniversary or milestone birthday celebration.  I am thinking my parents 50th ;)

3)  Origami Bow - super cute.  Not only would it be a cute gift topper, but a great embellishment for a card or layout.  Going to have to try this!

Hope you try some of these.  Remember if you do, tell me about it...I love feedback ;)

ATC: Noah's Ark

This is the ATC I did for the latest swap. The theme was "Noah's Ark". I had a lot of ideas flying around but this all came together when I found this image. I printed the image and mounted on heavy card stock. I then embellished the image: white Flower Soft on the clouds, silver Smooch ink on the rocks, Stickles in the water, Crystal Effects on the rainbow and then a wooden dove. I really like the way it came out.

Confirmation Cards

Jarek's confirmation was this past weekend.  Since I have worked with the confirmation group since they started in 7th grade I wanted to make a card for each of the children.   I had to make 19 cards in a short period of time, so I wanted to keep it simple.  Here is what I came up with...

Papers:  The Paper Studio
Embellishments:  Jolee's cross stickers, rhinestones, ribbon, border punch
Extra:  For the sentiment on the inside  I found a verse I liked and printed it on to clear labels; then adhered to the inside.

Sweet & Simple!

Pick 3 for the week of 6/4/12

I apologize for my tardiness, but I decided to take Monday off :)  It was a crazy busy week last week and I just felt I needed some down time...and it was wonderful to not have to worry about things for one day.  Now, on to this week...Jarek has two baseball games, last day of school, acolyting on Sunday, etc.  Does it truly ever slow down?

Well on to the picks...this week I focused on Fathers' Day since it is right around the corner.

1)  Gift Bags - what cute bags to use for Fathers' Day!

2)  Golf Wreath - this is super cute!  She has all the directions on her blog and it would be pretty quick to make...might have to try to whip this one up since both my DH and DS are golfers.

3)  Handy Gift Card Holder - this has got to be one of the cutest gift card holders I have ever seen!  Now she used a Cricut for some of her pieces, you could paper piece them.  Love it!

I hope you have a wonderful week.  Remember, I love comments...let me know if you try any of the picks.
